ROC Kids Fest is the flagship fundraising event for The Reach One Child “ROC” Foundation that provides educational as well as needs-based scholarships and grants for outstanding grade 6 students from the inner city and deep rural Jamaica through their high school years.
In 2013, we established The R.O.C. Scholarship Program to recognize and support these 6th grade students who demonstrate their commitment to excellence in academics, the arts and service, but who also have financial need. To date a total of Thirty-Five (35) students across the island have been aided with renewable grants to offset the expenses of their tuition, textbooks, school supplies and in some cases uniforms.
Our scholars and ROCstars (mentors) serve as a model for other youth outreach volunteer programs especially for our inner-city neighborhoods throughout the country. Most of our scholars were identified through our annual mentorship school tour programme – The ROC School Tour. The ROC School Tour has attracted national attention and is completely executed by volunteers. It has been supported by the media and commended by school administrators as a prototype for academic and cultural enrichment. Through the ROC School Tour we have engaged more than 15,000 primary students in motivational and team building workshops. This has also led to the establishment of a ROC Club International – a student-led service club – at Rollington Town Primary which has board members as young as 6 years old working together to be the positive change they want to see in their own schools and communities. ROC Clubs are currently being replicated in additional East Kingston schools.
